The Ohio State University School of Communication occasionally offers opportunities to participate in online studies for pay. Most of the studies take between 5 minutes and 1 hour. Depending on the length of the study, you would receive $1-$10 upon completion, either through PayPal or as an Amazon.com gift card (which are usually paid (in the case of PayPal) or sent (in the case of Amazon GC’s) within a day or two, after completing the study).
At the end of each study, you would read a short description of the purpose of the research, so that you can learn how your participation helped to advance scientific knowledge.
